Shell Puget Sound Refining
Description:
The client needed to have a new 510,000# reactor delivered and erected in a live unit. The reactor came with a single head lifting lug and was required to rotate 135 degrees after it was erected. Sicklesteel designed a spreader bar utilizing Finite Element Analysis (see picture above). This spreader bar allowed for the head pick to be performed with two (2) cranes by incorporating a swivel within the bar to meet the required rotation. The multiple crane lift utilized a DEMAG AC1300 (500 ton), DEMAG HC1020 (450 ton), and two (2) DEMAG AC615's (250 ton). Sicklesteel provided both the heavy haul and the heavy lift portions of the project, saved the client $600,000, and completed the project as planned.
